Rules and Regulations
1. Eligibility
(1) Malaysians who are 17 years old and above
(2) A non-native Japanese speaker and neither of his/her parents is Japanese
(3) Has not undergone compulsory education in Japan
(4) Previous contestants who have won the study tour in Japan and preparatory courses students are not eligible
(5) Length of stay in Japan
General Class:
Targeted to applicants who have not stayed in Japan for more than 90days
Special Class:
No limitation on the length of stay in Japan

2. Theme and Length of Speech, Manuscript
The Speech can be of any topic and within 6 minutes length. The manuscript submitted must be an original work of the contestant and has not been presented in any contest or event before. The Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur reserves the rights for all entries received.
3. Procedure
(1) Contestants must submit their manuscript together with a completed application form before 23 June 2008.
(2) 8 contestants from General Class and 6 contestants from Special Class will be selected by a panel of judges based on the evaluation of the manuscripts received.
(3) Several top winners from each class will compete in 24th Japanese Speech Contest for Open Category National Level with other finalists from Penang and Ipoh Preliminaries.
4. Judges
(1) Screening of judges will be selected from co-organizers and external Japanese language lecturer(s)
(2) Judges’ decision is final.
5. Travel Allowance
The Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur (JFKL) will provide transportation allowance to contestants from Negeri Sembilan, Malacca, Johor, Pahang, Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan; contestants from East Malaysia will be provided with transportation allowance as well as on (1) night accommodation.

in cooperation with Consulate-General of Japan in Penang, Alumni Look East Policy Society and Japan Graduates’ Association of Malaysia.

CHANGE OF DATE “Chirimen Handicraft Workshop”
Please be informed that the Chirimen Handicraft Workshop has been changed to 5th July 2008, Saturday due to an unavoidable circumstance.
Apologize for the inconvenience caused.
Chirimen is a type of fabric that is weaved specially to create crepe on its surface. It is usually made of silk and is used to make kimonos. At this workshop, the participants will learn how to make a pocket tissue case.
